IT news #1: Microsoft warns users about new phishing attacks on Office 365

Topic: Cybersecurity

These attempts were first noted on 26 August, with redirects and other fake social engineering links pretending to be from Microsoft. Unsuspecting users then had their credentials stolen following a serious of redirects to a malicious Google ReCAPTCHA verification landing page, with Office 365 sign-in.

IT news #2: The Children’s internet code is about to be released

Topic: Cybersecurity

On Thursday, we will see a new ethics code launched in the UK that aims to create a “better internet for kids”. More specifically, a year ago, in September 2020, the Age Appropriate Design Code was announced by the UK’s independent data authority, the Information Commissioner’s Office. The Children’s Internet Code is aiming to better manage privacy issues, inappropriate advertising and elongated surfing time (through hooks such as auto playing the next suggested video on a site). Many blue-chip organisations, such as YouTube and TikTok, have already prepared for the new regulations, though other digital companies are still yet to manage compliance.

IT news #3: IT systems in Norway are facing cyber attacks from China

Topic: Data breach, Cyber attack

Norway has linked Chinese cyber attackers to state hacks and other private IT infrastructure beak-ins back in 2018. The Government, in collaboration with its central intelligence agencies, has found technical evidence pinpointing the suspects, who are now trying to obtain classified data regarding Norway’s national defence and security intelligence.

IT news #4: A “map” of UK gun owners is published online

Topic: Data breach

The Guntrader, a website that sells guns, has reported a data breach back in July that has jeopardised the sensitive data of more than 100,000 of its clients. Now, reports have been made that an animal rights activist blog has published this client data, with a map, showing every gun-owner’s home address. The authorities are further investigating this breach in order to find the culprits.
